Purdue Pharma L.P. Supports Enhanced PhRMA Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals

Jul 15, 2008 | News

Stamford, CT – July 15, 2008 – Purdue Pharma L.P. enthusiastically supports the enhanced Code on Interactions with Healthcare Professionals recently published by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

PhRMA represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives. The PhRMA code was first introduced in 2002 to ensure that marketing practices would not “interfere with the independence of a healthcare professional’s prescribing practices.” The revised PhRMA code, which takes effect January 2009, includes more rigorous guidelines to ensure that pharmaceutical marketing and promotional practices comply with the highest ethical standards. For more information on the PhRMA code, go to www.phrma.org.

We are committed to ensuring that our employees’ communications with healthcare professionals comply with applicable laws, the PhRMA code and our own internal standards and policies,” said John Stewart, President of Purdue Pharma L.P. and a member of the PhRMA Board of Directors. “Over the years, we have continually sought to enhance the value of our interactions with healthcare professionals by providing information about the appropriate use of our products as well as non-branded scientific information and medical education programs to improve the management of pain.”

Purdue Pharma L.P. is a privately-held pharmaceutical company known for pioneering research on persistent pain. Headquartered in Stamford, CT, Purdue is engaged in the research, development, production, and distribution of both prescription and over-the-counter medicines and hospital products.
