In pursuit of drugs with new mechanisms of action and new delivery systems to treat pain and other conditions, our research seeks to enhance the effectiveness and safety of drug therapy.
Our researchers and clinicians have expertise in neurology, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, toxicology, molecular biology, combinatorial chemistry, and other scientific disciplines. They are collaborating to discover new weapons against pain and improve the effectiveness of existing therapies. On our own and in collaboration with Shionogi, a leading Japanese pharmaceutical company, Purdue is engaged in pioneering work in nociceptive and neuropathic pain.
Purdue scientists also continue to study and understand the real-world problem of prescription drug abuse. Through pharma research, they are working to discover new compounds to treat pain and develop safe and innovative formulations and delivery systems designed to deter drug abusers, while still offering effective pain control.
