Purdue has sponsored an article series on The Atlantic addressing the challenge of treating pain with opioids while combating opioid abuse in America.  Called “A Delicate Balance,” the series explores several approaches to helping achieve the public health goal of deterring prescription opioid abuse while effectively treating people who live with chronic pain.

The series includes articles written by Dr. Gerald Aronoff, Medical Director at Carolina Pain Associates, Steve Pasierb, President and CEO of Partnership for Drug-Free Kids and Dr. David Haddox, Purdue’s Vice President of Health Policy. There is also an interactive timeline that follows the medical use, and the abuse, of opioids throughout human history as well recent technological approaches to developing opioid medications with abuse-deterrent properties.
