Q. When was Purdue founded?
A. The Purdue Frederick Company was founded in 1892 in New York City by Dr.
John Purdue Gray and George Frederick Bingham. It began its development as a modern,
innovative pharmaceutical company when it was acquired by its current Board of
Directors in 1952. As part of that process, Purdue Pharma L.P. was formed in 1991
to research, develop, produce, market, sell, distribute, and license analgesic
medications and other pharmaceutical products.

particular, controlled-release opioid analgesics to relieve pain for both cancer
patients and patients with moderate to severe chronic pain. Looking toward the
future, our researchers are working to develop the next generation of medicines
to treat pain.

A. We plan to grow and expand our business through continuous improvement of
and investment in our research and development infrastructure and effective
product life cycle management. Also, we actively seek out opportunities to form
strategic alliances and partnerships.

A. Our research and development efforts are focused on developing long-acting
and sustained-release analgesics, including products that will provide safe and effective pain relief to patients and will be less desirable to drug abusers.
