John H. Stewart
President and Chief Executive Officer
John H. Stewart has served as President & CEO of Purdue Pharma L.P. since June of 2007. Prior to that date, he spent 33 years with Purdue Pharma Canada, initially as a sales representative and subsequently in positions of direct responsibility in business development, clinical research, product development, and regulatory/government affairs, and since 1990 as President.
During his tenure in Canada, Mr. Stewart played an active role in Rx&D, the association representing Canada’s research-based pharmaceutical companies. He was Chair of its Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and also chaired its Patented Medicine Prices Review Board, Health Canada, and National Political Action Plan Committees. He also represented the pharmaceutical industry on Canada’s National Advisory Council on Pharmaceutical Research, the Government of Canada Treasury Board’s Advisory Group on Cost Recovery/User Fees, and the Advisory Committee to the Ontario Drug Programs Reform Secretariat.
Mr. Stewart currently serves on the Board of Directors of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and The Business Council of Fairfield County, the Board of Visitors of Sacred Heart University, the Senior Advisory Council of The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, and the American Cancer Society’s CEOs Against Cancer.
A native of the Province of Québec, Mr. Stewart earned his BSc in Biology/Psychology at Bishops University in Lennoxville, Québec. His graduate studies, also in science, were at Florida Atlantic University.
